Introduction

Where do I begin?

A good place to start searching for information is your reading list. Why? … because relevant information has been found for you by your lecturer! Items in your reading list may be available in print or electronic format from the library.

To learn more about how to locate items in your reading list see the ILIP tutorial.

Bibliographies can also be a very useful starting point for locating relevant information. Check the bibliography of a relevant book or journal article for other information sources you can use.

Where else can I find information?

The UOW Library website has links to many information sources. Check these out.

Resources for assignments
Recommended information resources including books, journals and web sites specific to subject areas.

Resources by topic
Online reference resources compiled by Faculty Librarians.

Research resources
Useful resources for researchers compiled by the Research Training Librarian.

Don’t forget you can always use people as an information resource!

How do I find information using a search tool?
To find other information on a particular topic you may need to use a variety of search tools. Search tools such as the catalogue, databases and Internet are useful for finding information.
This module will help you:

  • Understand the types of information found in the catalogue, databases and the Internet
  • Use the UOW Library catalogue to identify sources of information
  • Find journal articles, conference papers and more using electronic databases
  • Search the Internet effectively to find academic information
  • Recognise additional sources for finding information
