Hints from the web address (URL)

Often the website's address (URL) is a key to identifying the type of page you are viewing. The URL may end in .edu or .gov which tells you where the page originates from. This is called a domain. The following table lists some common domains.

Country signature domains

An additional part of the domain which can help indicate relevance is the part which represents the country of origin. It is called the country signature domain. Note: The United States of America has no country signature domain, as the Internet was originally developed there.
