Art auction and exhibition catalogues
Overview
The Archives holds a collection of Australian art auction and exhibition
sale catalogues dating from the 1960s through to the end of the 1990s.
It comprises some 250 catalogues from major auction houses such as Christie's
and Sothebys, along with those from private galleries such as Deutscher~Menzies
and Lauraine Diggins.
The catalogues are useful in tracing the work of various Australian
artists, whilst providing a rich source of images for studies on all aspects
of Australian art, from the colonial period to the late twentieth century.
Larger, more complete collections of such catalogues are held in the
libraries of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery
of Victoria.
